Pursuing maximum sporting performance currently aims at marginal gains that combine and integrate professionals from different areas of the medical field, health professions, and sports science to achieve the most ambitious goals.
EXTREMESPORTMED, with this training initiative, aims to create a network of professionals able to interact with each other at high levels with a shared approach, capable of creating professional synergies between the different disciplines of the medical and health area.
The recipients of this project are:
• doctors (general practitioners, physiatrists, sports doctors, radiologists, orthopedists).
• health professionals (physiotherapists, sports science professionals, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists, and other interested professionals).
The central theme of the training course is musculoskeletal medicine, i.e., the diagnosis and treatment of problems affecting the musculoskeletal system, including injuries and diseases of the muscles, tendons, bones, and joints.
These are topics of broad interest, considering that about 30% of medical visits are related to the musculoskeletal system.
Healthcare professionals expert in musculoskeletal medicine manages over 80% of patients without referral to the surgeon.
In addition to their clinical skills, experienced professionals in musculoskeletal medicine exploit the diagnostic potential of ultrasound and ultrasound-guided infiltrative therapy.
Many experienced musculoskeletal medicine professionals work with sports teams and elite athletes, but diagnosis and treatment techniques can be transferred to the benefit of the general population.
THE TRAINING PROJECT
The first phase of the training project will build the foundations for a method shared by the various professional figures by immediately entering into the heart of some crucial issues for the next Olympic four-year period.
Three webinars will be focused on skiing, the primary winter sport, running, which, due to its versatility and simplicity of execution, is involved in the sports preparation of all sports and kiteboarding, the action sport that will make its debut in the Paris 2024 Olympic program.
We will then move on to practice, with an initial ultrasound course to provide the basis for the use of this method in musculoskeletal medicine.
The events included in the first phase are the following:
- Webinar: MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE IN SCI
- Webinar: MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE IN RUNNING
- Webinar: MUSCULOSKELETAL MEDICINE IN KITEBOARDING
- Event in attendance: MUSCULOSKELETAL ULTRASOUND ENTRY LEVEL COURSE
We will move on to the subsequent phases of the project, which will take place between the end of 2022 and 2023.
